Life Source Consultants, Inc., a 501 (c) organization (the first African
American Domestic and Sexual Violence Crisis Center in the State of
Missouri) was founded in January 1994 by Gloria J. Johnson, PhD.  Life
Source is working towards effecting a positive change in the area of
domestic violence and sexual assault in St. Louis County and the City of St.
Louis.  Community based, and when needed culturally, gender and age
sensitive support services are provided at no charge for victims and their
families.  Dr. Johnson started Life Source Consultants in her basement by
offering crisis intervention services and action planning sessions for abused
women.  By the end of our first year 300 women had received crisis
intervention and action planning services and/or participated in our support
group sessions, and over 400 copies of our first newsletter was published
and distributed.  In February 1995 as one of three support service
organizations in St. Louis, we moved to a permanent location in North St.
Louis County.  Before Life Source there was not a domestic violence
organization in the Northern section of St. Louis City or County.

In June 2001, Life Source Consultants was selected as one of five winners of
the Focus St. Louis 2001 "What's Right With The Region" in the category of
"Promoting Stronger Communities!"  This even saluted success highlighting
25 individuals , initiatives, and organizations from five categories making a
difference in the community of St. Louis and we were one of those
organizations to receive an award.

In partnership with the Human Development Corporation of Metropolitan St.
Louis, Life Source opened a second office in the mid-town area of the City of
St. Louis for clients who find it difficult to travel to our North County office.
This center is named in honor of "Brandi Scales" a 21-year old woman who
was killed in 2001 by a former boyfriend.

Life Source Consultants offers hope and encourgement through varios
services to women who feel they are "alone in the dark" until they can see
the light at the end of their tunnel.  That light is hope, renewed
self-confidence, empowerment to make positive changes, and above all, the
knowledge that they "are not alone" but someone cares and is reaching out
to them.
